Preservation integration strategy
Duncan N. Angwin
Chapter 123 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 331-333 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The chapter explores the preservation integration strategy in post-acquisition management, which emphasises maintaining the acquired company's autonomy to retain its competitive advantage. It discusses the stages of this approach, such as retaining the acquired CEO, boundary protection, and gradual change. While this strategy minimises integration risks, it requires balance to avoid neglect by the acquirer. The chapter advocates evolving towards symbiotic integration to maximise synergy benefits over time.
