Abstract:
This chapter explores acculturation during mergers and acquisitions, explaining the different modes of cultural adaptation between acquiring and target firms: integration, assimilation, separation, and deculturation. It discusses factors influencing acculturation, such as cultural preservation, partner attractiveness, and multicultural tolerance. The chapter highlights the role of social integration mechanisms, HR practices, and sensemaking in managing acculturative stress and promoting successful cultural harmonization.
