Chapter 42 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 110-111 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Cross-border acquisitions frequently fail to meet expectations due to challenges of integrating different country cultures and acquirers’ lack of knowledge about how to use this in new contexts. Both challenges require effective knowledge transfer. However, transferring non-location specific knowledge from the acquirer to the acquired company can have a darker side of upsetting acquired company power structures, organizational practices and routines. Research is needed to shed light on the darker side of knowledge transfer.
