Chapter 2 in Handbook of Innovation Indicators and Measurement, 2023, pp 12-17 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter introduces the general definition of innovation, applicable in any economic sector, and makes a comparison of the general definition and the definition of business innovation. Language, used by the System of National Accounts, and applied in innovation measurement, and analysis, is considered. The role of standards is introduced and the place of the fourth edition of the Oslo Manual as a standard is emphasized. The chapter concludes with a program of work
