Feminist pedagogies: careful(l) ethics in teaching qualitative research methods

Abstract: In this chapter, the authors follow and explore the careful and carefull as feminist ethical practices that inspire and inform their teaching of qualitative research. Carefulness is often guided by cautionary and formalised procedures such as policies and institutional review board guidelines. This juxtaposes with carefullness, which they see as an abundance of care spilling into and through their feminist work, inspired by connections and the immanence of particular moments. Extending from conversations with one another, the authors explore four provocations of carefullness, storying and situating them in the context of their pedagogical experiences as teachers of qualitative research. As feminist researchers, they take seriously the role that theory plays in scholarship and teaching - how they teach with theory. Here, the authors weave individual stories in a caring, supportive feminist collective - facing failures, vulnerabilities, joys, and growth, while striving to become more careful(l) pedagogues through and with feminist theories.
