Hurtigruten Cruises by Wiersholm

.

Chapter 3 in Investigation Reports, 2021, pp 38-48 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This case study is concerned with the cruise company Hurtigruten, which ignored Corona prevention rules. When the Corona virus caused lockdown of most activities, Norway’s Hurtigruten cruises used its channels into political decision makers to convince politicians to open up again for cruise activities. Hurtigruten management was successful, and they could quickly reopen their shipping activities. However, quarantine rules were not followed, suspected cases of the Corona virus were not followed up, and crew members felt their lives in danger, but were afraid of speaking out. Convenience themes for Hurtigruten included corporate threats of bankruptcy, chaos and collapse to conceal wrongdoing, and innocence based on justification and neutralization. Norwegian law firm Wiersholm examined the matter at the lowest maturity level of activity-oriented investigation.
