A PA-focused introduction to Asian religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Shintoism
.
Chapter 3 in Religion and Public Administration, 2023, pp 69-90 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Chapter 3 proposes a PA-focused introduction to the (so-called) ‘Asian’ religions; notably, we consider here: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Shintoism. They are presented following, roughly, the order of their historical appearance. The introductory elements that are presented for each of the religions discussed are intended to provide the reader who may not be knowledgeable of a given religion with some entry points to grasp the broad picture, in order to be able to better appreciate some of the implications for PA, the ultimate object of study of this book. The purpose of this chapter is limited to providing certain elements of knowledge that are employed throughout chapters 5 to 7 in order to be able to examine a range of PA themes.
