The Enlightenment and global constitutionalism
Chris Thornhill
Chapter 5 in Handbook on Global Constitutionalism, 2023, pp 59-75 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Human rights and the judicial bodies that enforce such rights at regional and global levels represent an important dimension of global constitutionalism. This chapter traces the origins of those rights and the use of courts to protect them from early Enlightenment figures through the French and American revolutions.
