Introduction to the Handbook of Critical Environmental Accountability and Sustainability
Glen Lehman and
Renée Palmer
A chapter in Handbook of Critical Environmental Accountability and Sustainability, 2026, pp 1-5 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This book assumes that modern accountability and democratic theory have been (overly) influenced by economic and procedural logic. Economic and procedural sense is based on foundational beliefs that these ideas and numbers accurately represent the natural environment. This critical chapter employs interpretive and postmodernist insights to examine the limitations of financial and instrumental reasoning.
