Abstract: This chapter provides a case study on asbestos and its impacts. Although asbestos is a cheap and durable material for domestic and commercial use, it is toxic to humans. In addition, the continued mining and use of asbestos, coupled with the legacy of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in the environment, has left a toxic environmental inheritance. Therefore, asbestos remains a significant impediment to achieving a safe environment for workers, communities and future generations. It represents a key and essential issue in the accounting for environmental space.
