Abstract: This chapter explores the relationships between postmodern and social imaginaries on which the role of social and environmental accounting has been constructed in contemporary liberal-democratic societies. It provides a continuum outlining various social imaginaries and schools of thought on social and environmental accounting. This continuum can help to facilitate the development of a moderate political consensus.
