Abstract: This chapter interrogates humanity's basic understanding of the world and whether this understanding depends (solely) on human mental representations. Considerable benefits accrue from engaging in more profound philosophies and analyses of the type outlined in this handbook. Exploring the connections between humanity and Nature in ways that can help society avoid becoming disengaged and detached from Nature appears likely to be very beneficial.
