Abstract: This chapter delineates the various manners in which one can meaningfully speak European ‘constitutional law’ in the absence of a formal ‘European Constitution’ with that name, even if we refer to the European Union. The justification of this lies in the broader notion of ‘constitutions’/ ‘constitutional’ in Europe as a whole. Relevant objections against the notion of European constitutional law as meaningful in the context of the European Union need to be addressed seriously, but are ultimately to be rejected.
