Abstract:
This chapter takes a Neo Fordist and Post Fordist approach to an analysis of the relationship between globalisation, policy and shipping with particular reference to the EU. The nature of Neo and Post Fordism is defined including issues relation to labour and production, accumulation, social modes of economic regulation and societalisation taking examples from the shipping industry. The crisis of Fordism is outlined. The chapter concludes with an interpretation of the Fordist/Post Fordist debate in the maritime sector of the EU and in the context of globalisation and policy-making.
