Introduction to Handbook of Accounting in Society: seeing accountants everywhere
Hendrik Vollmer
Chapter 1 in Handbook of Accounting in Society, 2024, pp 2-7 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This introduction to the Handbook of Accounting in Society invites the reader to join its authors in spotting accountants across society. It encourages readers to adopt the accommodating position of accounting realism, prepared to recognize a diverse range of accountants and accountings, and to abandon the accounting idealism of accounting textbooks, standards, and professional prescriptions. To be realistic about accounting in society means to be curious about how accountants rewrite the world by articulating the places we live in as well as our livelihoods and lives.
