Yvonne C. Ocrant and Amanda Z. Weaver

Chapter 35 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Animal Law, 2025, pp 136-139 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Equine business transactions may include both contract-based principles as well as those with a specific focus on equine welfare. Relevant contracts relating to the equine industry may include those relating to liability releases for equine activities, boarding and training contracts, and sales or leases. Competition organizations and state and federal legislation may address equine welfare in a variety of different contexts, including those bearing upon equine competitions, horseracing, wild horses, veterinary medicine, and animal cruelty laws.
