Abstract: Animal law in Pakistan is an emerging and evolving field, with recent advocacy pushing for stronger protections to replace outdated legislation. While the existing anti-cruelty framework dates back to the 19th century, Pakistan faces significant challenges in enforcing these laws due to limited resources, lack of awareness, and cultural attitudes. Constitutional litigation to protect captive wild animals and stray dogs has resulted in limited success. However, farmed animals and animals used in research remain largely unprotected. To address these gaps, Pakistan needs comprehensive legal reforms, robust enforcement mechanisms, and widespread public education on the importance of animal protection.
