Why some university entrepreneurial ecosystems perform better than others
.
Chapter 7 in University Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, 2024, pp 75-86 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Acknowledging the co-existence of sub-ecosystems suggests that the average performance of an overall local ecosystem may hide significant differences between sub-ecosystems. By focusing on the university entrepreneurial ecosystems this chapter explores how and why ecosystems differ, even when their locational conditions appear the same. The empirical part of the chapter specifically observes differences between co-located university entrepreneurial ecosystems and across ecosystems. This approach is employed across two performance measures: academic spinout formation and academic spinout survival. The chapter concludes by developing a conceptual framework explaining university entrepreneurial ecosystem performance.
