Abstract:
This chapter surveys the origins and development of institutional economics, giving special attention to core preconceptions, key theories, and contemporary applications. It concludes with a discussion of challenges facing institutionalism, including the need to build bridges to post-Keynesian economics and other non-neoclassical schools of economic thought.
