Introduction to The Regulation of Intelligence Activities under International Law
.
Chapter 1 in The Regulation of Intelligence Activities under International Law, 2023, pp 1-30 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter introduces the book’s argument, namely that intelligence activities are comprehensively regulated in the international legal order, and the model of regulation I theorise. I then put the argument in the historical, legal, and ethical context of the twenty-first-century security landscape and identify the theorisation gaps that the book fills. I define the key terms determining the book’s research agenda, namely ‘intelligence activities’ and ‘regulation under international law’, and present my interdisciplinary methodological approach. The chapter closes with a roadmap of the book.
