Abstract:
This chapter explores the developments at the international level towards the creation of a new UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons and the potential implications were such a Convention to be introduced for the rights of access to healthcare for “older persons” in the NHS in England. It interrogates who is an “older person.” It explores controversies concerning claims of ageism in the delivery of healthcare in England. It places the recent developments at the international level in their historical context and analyses the recent developments at international level. It critically examines the potential practical implications at the domestic level in England for access to healthcare were such a UN Convention to be ratified.
