Chapter 8 in Central Banking and Monetary Policy Implementation, 2025, pp 171-181 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The recent Covid-19 pandemic, global issues such as the Russia–Ukraine war and global inflation among other issues have led to a series of conventional and unconventional monetary policies with central banks using government bills and a broader range of assets to regulate the economy. The resulting effects have varied per country and per situation. This chapter analyzes monetary policy in Nigeria with respect to its implementation and resulting effects. First, we discuss the historical transmission channels and instruments of monetary policy in Nigeria. We also review the financial reports of the country to analyze the effectiveness of the central bank's monetary policy implementation strategies.
