Chapter 70 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Innovation Management, 2025, pp 268-270 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Social enterprises aim to create social and environmental value while remaining financially viable. When innovating in their business models, these organizations must consider the different expectations of stakeholders regarding economic, social, and environmental outcomes, which can be challenging. In this entry, social enterprise business model innovation is discussed, and the C Model is presented. The C Model is an approach developed in Brazil to guide social enterprises through a collaborative business model innovation process, considering stakeholders’ expectations about the economic, social, and environmental value. Involving stakeholders in the innovation process can help social enterprises address existing and future challenges, and business model innovation must be a core aspect of the organization's culture.
