Government regulation of racial inequality in the workplace

Abstract: Governments in many jurisdictions have begun to regulate certain social and environmental issues, including gender inequality, gender pay gaps, and climate change, but racial inequality in the workplace has received limited regulatory attention. This entry highlights the lack of government regulation—beyond racial discrimination and racial diversity in management and leadership positions—of racial inequality, including racial pay gaps, inequality in promotion, and advancement opportunities, and the overall experience of inclusion and belonging for racial and ethnic minorities. It explains that governments can do more to regulate racial inequality, which results in lack of advancement and opportunity for people of color.
