Abstract: Classification is a mandatory step in Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA), where the result from a Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) analysis is assigned to relevant impact categories. There is no standardized number of impact categories for LCA, nor for LCC. However, the recommended management framework for social impact assessment includes the ISO 26000 guidance standard on social responsibility, the IFC social performance standards, and the options for exhaustive coverage of impacts made possible with the capitals approach.
