Abstract: Unlike environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) examines the potential positive or negative effects of a product or process on society throughout its entire life cycle. Positive impacts in S-LCA are those that go beyond legal requirements and contribute to improving human well-being. The subcategory of social benefits/social security within S-LCA focuses on evaluating the positive effects related to enhancing social well-being and assessing an organization's provision of social benefits and security for workers. This subcategory addresses additional benefits provided beyond legal obligations, such as healthcare and retirement plans. Due to varying global regulations, these additional benefits are highly context specific. While there is still no clear consensus on what constitutes positive impacts, ongoing research aims to refine the data collection and analysis process regarding the social benefits/social security subcategory.
