Abstract: This text introduces the concept of stakeholders, providing some insights on the historical development of the stakeholder concept and the stakeholder theory. It then discusses how the concept has been used in sustainability science, including the potential classifications and the related challenges related to stakeholder engagement. It finally discusses the selection of relevant stakeholders in the Social Life Cycle Assessment methodology. This methodology assesses impacts on stakeholder categories using impact subcategories and indicators, promoting a comprehensive evaluation of social impacts across a product or service's life cycle.
