Abstract: In 2015, the United Nations defined a set of goals and related targets that encompass environmental, economic, and social aspects: the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs follow the Millennium Development Goals, defined in 2000. The SDGs are the first framework for sustainable development approved at the international level – not just on developing countries – and have been used as a communication tool to report the results of their implementation. The 17 SDGs, with 169 targets and 232 indicators, focus on a set of environmental, social, and economic hotspots, particularly important to achieve sustainable development. Compared to the MDGs, the SDGs are more detailed. A challenge, however, is that LCSA itself does not yet offer the simultaneous measurement of advantages and disadvantages that can be applied to specific SDGs, their targets, or indicators.
