 Workers stakeholder categoryMaria Giovina Pasca Chapter 191 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, 2026, pp 718-721 from Edward Elgar Publishing Abstract: The worker represents one of the categories of stakeholders considered in the Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) Guidelines. The S-LCA methodology requires a stakeholder approach, as the potential negative and positive social impacts on people (stakeholders) are considered. Eleven impact subcategories are linked to the “worker” stakeholder category: (1). Freedom of association and collective bargaining; (2). Child labour; (3). Fair salary; (4). Working hours; (5). Forced labour; (6). Equal opportunities/discrimination; (7). Health and safety; (8). Social benefits/social security; (9). Employment relationship; (10). Sexual harassment; (11). Smallholders, including farmers. Stakeholders and their subcategories, and more generally, the S-LCA framework, are linked to the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. In addition, the category of workers could be divided into different types of workers, if relevant to the study, and this can be significant to ensure that the study considers some of the most vulnerable stakeholders, such as women, migrant workers, or disabled workers.
