Abstract: Corruption is the misuse of power for personal gain, encompassing bribery, embezzlement, and other illegal activities. It hampers economic and social development, impacting income distribution and investment. Cultural factors influence its perception. Corruption affects governments, politics, and legal systems, eroding trust in institutions. In the public sector, corruption involves offering benefits to officials in exchange for favors. Vulnerable areas include human resources and contract allocation. Preventive measures include codes of conduct, training, conflict of interest regulations, transparency, and whistleblowing mechanisms. Corruption widens social disparities, harms the marginalized, and has environmental consequences. In the corporate world, corruption disrupts growth and poses legal and reputational risks.
