Yahong Dong and Md Uzzal Hossain

Chapter 68 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, 2026, pp 250-255 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Considering the concern on sustainable development, environmental management is a priority focus in most of the organizations and industries to reduce or eliminate the negative environmental consequences, including the carbon emissions of its products, processes, and services, and increasing the positive effects. The main function of environmental management is to make strategic plans, actions, implementation, review, audit, and reporting for effective communication. The basic principle, the ISO framework and standards on environmental management, and commonly used tools and techniques with an example of carbon emission reduction potential in the construction industry, are discussed.
