Chapter 78 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, 2026, pp 293-294 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
A customer feedback mechanism is a process or system through which information about customer satisfaction with an organization's actions, products, or services are collected and communicated to relevant parties. The insights gained from feedback mechanisms are utilized to continuously enhance products and services by adjusting or changing current practices. Given their crucial role in consumer interaction, feedback mechanisms have been incorporated as an impact subcategory within the consumer stakeholder category in the context of the social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) framework. The subcategory aims at identifying the measures taken by management to support consumer feedback, and analyzes the effectiveness of the feedback mechanism. Additionally, other practices such as level and quality of organizational response can be included within the analysis as well.
