Abstract: This chapter provides an integrative overview of the Handbook's contributions on Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) in regional contexts, synthesizing conceptual advances and EU and global implementation cases. It outlines how TIP reframes regional innovation policy to address societal challenges through directionality, inclusion, reflexivity, and experimentation. Comparative insights reveal that while TIP's imperative is universal, pathways are highly context-dependent, shaped by political economy conditions, state capacity, and civic engagement. Both EU and non-EU regions are advancing toward transformative innovation policy, but along markedly different paths. The EU's Smart Specialisation framework offers the most institutionalized form, while non-EU cases range from highly centralized, state-led models in East Asia to decentralized, experimental approaches in North and Latin America, with hybrid patterns in India. Across all contexts, success hinges on the ability to build inclusive governance, manage contestation, and sustain the civic and institutional capacities needed for long-term transformation.
