The in-between
Kenj R. Campbell
Chapter 19 in Reimagining the Gendering of Sport, 2025, pp 242-245 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
For years, sport obscured my true self, leading to depression and substance abuse. The binary nature of sport left no space for my nonbinary identity, resulting in isolation and disordered eating. Walking away allowed me to begin a journey of self-discovery and healing, though it was fraught with relapse and struggle. Ultimately, embracing my queerness and rejecting limiting labels, I found liberation in the in-between, honoring my true identity beyond the confines of sport.
