Chapter 108 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 419-421 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This entry aims to discuss the effects of shocks on the energy economy. For this purpose, shocks in the energy economy are examined under two channels. The first is to investigate the impact of shocks on energy prices. Here, the effect of shocks on energy prices on macroeconomic and financial variables is mentioned. Another discussion topic of the entry is examining the effects of shocks on energy consumption. In this section, the impact of shocks on the consumption of energy from various energy sources is discussed. For both effects, some studies in the literature were examined. As a result, the importance of correctly analyzing the impact of shocks and adopting appropriate policies in terms of obtaining beneficial outputs has been mentioned.
