Chapter 28 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 111-114 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Energy security issues in Africa require, among other things, conscious ways of managing electricity consumption. Since the continent is youthful, it is important for the youth, whose lifestyle is energy-intensive, to take up the challenge to engage in electricity conservation to promote sustainable energy in the future as well as drive sustainable development. This entry reveals that although there are some challenges that can inhibit electricity conservation by the youth, intensification of education, formation of social clubs, provision of incentives, and having role models are some of the potential avenues to promote electricity conservation behavior among African youth.
