Chapter 4 in A Concise Guide to Corporate Downsizing, 2025, pp 124-166 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an integrative summary of the current state of research on workforce reductions in the family business context based upon a systematic review of peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2007 and 2023. Our analysis suggests that there are numerous opportunities to enhance our understanding of the influence of context and family business characteristics on employment practices, including job cuts and their performance outcomes.
