Chapter 13 in Research Handbook on Leadership in Social Work and Social Care, 2025, pp 164-176 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides insights into the development and impact of the Adaptive Leadership in Human Services Institute (ALHSI) at New York University's Silver School of Social Work, highlighting the experiences of five alumni who have directly applied the adaptive leadership ideas they learned at the ALHSI in diverse professional settings. The chapter describes the alignment of adaptive leadership with social work's values and purpose and makes a case for why it should occupy a central place in the global social work curriculum.
