Abstract:
Over the last decade, scholars have observed a new trend towards more openness in strategy making, labelled “Open Strategy”, which is driven by societal, cultural, technological, and organizational forces. While strategy making was traditionally associated with secrecy and exclusivity, organizations are increasingly designing their strategy processes in an inclusive and transparent way. There are various practices of Open Strategy such as internal strategy jams, inter-organizational strategy workshops or CEO blogging. This new trend to more openness can be seen across all industries and types of organizations, including private sector organizations, public sector organizations, as well as community organizations and cooperatives. As a relatively new area of study for Strategy as Practice scholars, Open Strategy offers great potential for future research.
