Chapter 5.17 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 665-670 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
According to the domain statement of the Strategy Process Interest Group of Strategic Management Society, strategy process research studies “how strategies are envisioned, implemented, changed, and governed – be it via deliberate or emergent processes. […] A major role of strategy process research is to act as an integrative bridgehead within the broader strategic management domain to understand the dynamics of strategic elements over time.” A key defining factor of strategy process research is that temporal dynamics play a central role. Time plays an important role in the way strategies are being developed, how they evolve, and how are continuously adapted.
