Linguistic turn

Chapter 2.16 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 166-168 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The so-called linguistic turn has had a major impact across social sciences and the humanities as it helps us to understand the central role of language in the social construction of reality. This is also the case with SAP where scholars have focused increasing attention on linguistic practices in strategy-making and strategic change. As a result, we have seen a proliferation of contributions adopting discursive, narrative, rhetorical and other linguistic perspectives helping us to understand the central role of communication in strategy and strategizing. While we have learned a great deal about the role of language in SAP, there are many opportunities for future research.
