Abstract: This chapter explores the role of the evolving landscape of human capital in Australia with a particular emphasis on the influence of international relations and expatriate policies. Specifically, it examines how Australia's global workforce intersects with its domestic challenges across some of its key industries. Critical issues in Australia's human capital management such as workforce attraction and retention, diversity and inclusion gaps, skills shortages, and job insecurity are analyzed. Furthermore, the chapter also investigates the important role that multinational enterprises (MNEs) play in shaping the human capital dynamics, such as their efforts in integrating expatriates and fostering workforce diversity, including balancing the integration of global versus local talent. Based on these insights, strategic recommendations are provided aimed at enhancing workforce resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability. This chapter offers a comprehensive understanding of the structural and policy-driven factors shaping Australia's human capital and provides directives for industry leaders and practitioners, policymakers, and educators on strengthening Australia's national human capital development.
