Hanoku Bathula and Daniel Tisch

Chapter 27 in Handbook of Teaching and Learning in Social Innovation, 2026, pp 407-415 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Social innovation is critical for addressing global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and healthcare inequality. The Future17 program, launched in 2022, is a global education initiative that integrates interdisciplinary collaboration and experiential learning to tackle real-world problems in organizations, advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Future17 case study highlights the unique pedagogical approach, emphasizing problem-based learning and engaging students and academic mentors from diverse disciplines in collaborative projects. The Future17 program exemplifies social innovations both within higher education and in organizations’ real-world projects with social impact.
