Chapter 5 in Handbook of Comparative Political Economy, 2025, pp 102-118 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter sets out the core elements of the approach to comparative political economy that the authors have developed in previous publications, here labeled the Growth Model Approach (GMA). We spell out how our approach relates to other approaches to comparative political economy and how it incorporates insights from international political economy. We indicate how our thinking about growth models has evolved in response to criticisms leveled against our previous work and the findings of empirical studies inspired by it. By way of conclusion, we identify new directions for the literature on growth models.
