Abstract:
One purpose of the SBIR program is to foster and encourage innovation by women and socially or economically disadvantaged persons. In this chapter, the rate of commercialization and the patenting output of Phase II projects is considered over time and across Institutes and Centers in terms of the gender and race of the funded firms’ owners. The gender and race of firm owners is also shown to be related to the sources of knowledge used by the firm.
