Abstract:
The main objective of this chapter is to discuss different aspects of practical implementation of foresight in enterprises, taking into consideration current challenges related to the areas of business activity. The two-step research method is applied in this chapter. The first stage involves conducting a narrative theme-based literature review using an exploratory and descriptive approach. The second stage consists of mapping the foresight-related projects carried out under the EU framework programmes (FP) for research and innovation. Conducted research resulted in the identification, classification, and analysis of the methods used in foresight projects. The findings underscore the critical role of developing adaptive strategies and efficiently allocating resources in order to leverage upcoming technological advancements. The empirical analysis of foresight-related projects funded by the European framework programmes in the last two decades reveals strong concentration of the coordination of these projects in a few countries, with Italy and Spain being the leaders. The analysis also shows a shift in foresight methods used over time, highlighting the growing importance of both qualitative and quantitative techniques. The study identifies limitations in the current foresight practices, such as the underfunding of corporate foresight in EU projects and the limited participation of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.
