Abstract: This entry introduces microhistory as a historical approach that foregrounds complexity, contradiction and situated agency through a reduction of analytical scale. It explores microhistory's contributions to management and organization studies, highlighting its rethinking of micro–macro relationships, agency–structure interactions and the connection between context and events. Instead of generalizing from broad representativeness, microhistory theorizes through the particular, using marginal cases to challenge dominant categories and surface hidden structures. By tracing dissonant sources, affective experiences and archival silences, microhistory offers a reflective, source-based approach to investigating meaning-making, institutional change and the uneven textures of organizational life.
