Abstract: Origin stories are a methodological approach of ‘doing history’ in historical organisation studies. It emphasizes tracing the intellectual and institutional roots of management thought and practice. Origin stories focus on how narratives about the past are constructed and later mobilized in the present to shape management and organisation phenomena such as organisational identities, pedagogical frameworks and power structures. More recently, origin stories have featured in the historical management learning and education literature. This entry, then, shows how origin stories can be used to reveal hidden ideological influences, challenge foundational myths and open space for multiple, critical histories of management's intellectual roots in learning and education.
