Ficto-feminism

Abstract: Ficto-feminism (Williams 2021, 2022, 2024) is a feminist method for feminist historical inquiry. It combines elements of collective biography (Gannon and Davies 2006), autoethnography ( Ellis et al. 2010) and fictocriticism (Gibbs 2003). Ficto-feminism produces a mode of writing which is embodied, full of reflexivity and resonance (Cunliffe 2004). This form of writing can be characterized as pro-woman or polemical (Ferguson 1986) and therefore contributes to the feminist tradition of writing differently in management and organizational studies (Gilmore et al. 2019). The aim of ficto-feminism is to surface insights from a repressed life and specifically a neglected female figure and to inspire more inclusive discourse in management and organizational studies. In producing a ficto-feminist account, the author crafts a fictitious conversation with the historical protagonist, by weaving together fragments and historical traces and deliberately repurposing them into a new and imaginary biographical rendering.
