Chapter 79 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Historical Organisation Studies, 2026, pp 289-294 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
By examining how management narratives have been constructed, contested and reimagined, the historiography of management history provides valuable insights into the evolution of managerial thought and practice. This entry is intended as an introductory guide for exploring the historiography of management thought by highlighting its central themes, its methodological debates and its enduring significance to students, practitioners and scholars of management. It underscores the importance of historiography not only in understanding the past but also in shaping how we approach contemporary issues in management and organizational studies.
